Branding photos of an author - case study: Gemma Bray

Gemma Bray, Author, App Creator & Influencer - A Branding Photography Case Study 

On-brand website & PR images.  Case study: 3 hour branding shoot

Meet Gemma Bray, aka The Organised Mum - an author, podcaster, the TOM app creator, and basically a huge online influencer, helping parents around the world to keep on top of their housework!  I took these photos back in 2020 in between lock downs, and although she no longer looks like this and has another newer website now, I still wanted to share them!  

Gem was having a new website designed, and was launching her second book, and needed new photos for both.  We went with the longer full branding session so that she'd have more images included, and would have time for several outfit changes and a variety of looks.   

The photos were all taken in and around her home to give a more authentic feel, and it went so well with her brand colours!  I photographed her with the books, working at her desk, and of course in the kitchen!  We also planned to include plenty of background images too without Gem in them, or without her face in them, as you'll see below, as whilst she was confident going on video and doing lives, she wasn't quite so comfortable with photos.  These kinds of images work really well for social media use and extra images on websites, so I always like to include some of these in with a branding session anyway, but you can see that you can have lots as part of your branding shoot with me, they don't all have to be of you posing for the camera.  And Eddie the dog got to join in as well!😀

At the time the brand look we were going for was cool and a bit retro, fun, bold and funky, whilst still being simple and natural. Colour wise we were looking at using a bright yellow and plenty of white to go with the books, and we did that through adding sunflowers as a prop and with what Gemma wore, her laptop, and fortunately lots of other items in the house went with the theme!  And I kept the photos light and bright to go with all that.  (I guessed she'd be a Spring brand for being bold and fun and cool, and when Gemma did my brand style quiz she got that too!)
